Taking the satirical themes explored since the 1950s and planting them in a children's cartoon, A Charlie Brown Christmas finds its disconsolate hero wondering if he really knows what Christmas is all about, what with all the recent emphasis on tree decoration, cards and the presents. Surprising no-one, it turns out Christmas is about what you think it's about, but Charlie Brown's journey toward that realization, trying to keep a nativity play as 'real' as possible, remains entertaining even though it's on TV at least twice a year.
